VA awarded a total of $18.5 million to design and install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at three VA medical centers (VAMC).

  • VA awarded approximately $8.5 million to design and install a 1.7 megawatt solar PV system at the Audie L. Murphy VAMC in San Antonio, Texas.  This system is expected to produce ten percent of the facility’s annual electricity usage.

  • Approximately $8 million was awarded to design and build a 1.8 megawatt solar PV system at the John L. McClellan Memorial VAMC in Little Rock, Arkansas.  This system is expected to produce 16 percent of the facility’s annual electricity usage.

  • Additionally, VA awarded $2 million to design and build a 332 kilowatt solar PV system at the Sacramento VAMC - Valley Campus in Mather, California.  Approximately 7.5 of the facility’s annual electricity usage will be produced by this system.

These projects are expected to be completed in early 2013.  Solar PV projects provide clean, reliable, and free electricity to our VA facilities - helping support our overall mission of providing quality healthcare services in a dependable environment to our Veterans.
